How To Apply
Your
NailEase Brace
A few important notes before getting started.....
Need a helping hand?
Some people might have difficulty applying NailEase to their
own toes. Perhaps they can't comfortably reach their toes. Or
maybe arthritis in the hands makes it hard to manipulate small
objects such as the NailEase brace. If for any reason you feel
you might need help applying NailEase, please ask a member of
your family or a good friend to give you a hand.
You may also consider using a licensed Nail
Technician. They can help you apply a NailEase brace,
shape and trim your nail, and make your NailEase brace
disappear so that only you know it is there. (While
you're at it, treat yourself to a pedicure-you deserve
it!)
Recommendations:
We
recommend that you apply a NailEase brace at the first
sign of discomfort. Our self application kit is
only recommended for application to the toenail of the great or
"big" toe, and for adults over 12 years of age.
Professionals, such as a Podiatrist or a licensed Nail
Technician, have other NailEase options available to them to
meet nearly every situation. Check our Location
page for one in your area.
Warnings:
Before
applying a NailEase brace, you should consult with a podiatrist
or other medical professional if you have a damaged or diseased
nail, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or your toe is
grossly infected (oozing puss) or highly inflamed.
Consult your podiatrist or physician if your condition gets
worse at any time, or does not improve within 7 days. Click on Location
for a listing of podiatrists in your area.
Avoiding
potential problems and
Customizing your nail
Our
research has shown some common and easy to correct errors that
create difficulty in securing a quick, easy, long lasting bond.
You may want to review them before making your
application. Avoiding
Potential Problems
We
also offer some suggestions for customizing your nail before
applying NailEase that may make your NailEase brace more
effective. Customizing Your
Nail
STEP 1
- Make sure the nail is dry and clean. Remove all powders,
ointments, bandages, cosmetics, and medications. Wash with
soap and water if necessary, then dry completely.
STEP 2
Trim any excessive growth off the nail. Buff the nail with the
enclosed nail file until you have removed the nails shiny
surface. Also, file any ridges and pits to produce a nail
surface that is as smoothly rounded and uniform as possible. If
necessary, buff lengthwise, crosswise, and diagonally. Buff as
close to the nail's outer edge as possible.
STEP 3
- Round the sharp corners on one end of the NailEase brace
(it doesn't matter which end) either by trimming with
scissors or filing with the emery board.
STEP 4
- Clean the buffing residue and oily deposits from the
toenail using the alcohol prep pad. Work the pad along the
outer edges of the nail using the flat end of the applicator
tool if necessary. Wipe the NailEase brace and your fingers
clean of any surface oils or debris. Allow enough time for
the nail to dry completely after cleaning. Make sure that no
moisture is trapped along the edges of the nail.
STEP 5
Remove the cardboard sleeve on the BOND-AID swab and replace
it so that the cotton swab is exposed. Press firmly where
"Crush at Dot" is printed. This will crush the inner
glass ampule within the protective container, releasing the
BOND-AID solution to the cotton swab. Coat the entire nail
plate and allow to dry before applying the adhesive.
STEP 6
- Place a couple of drops of NailEase Adhesive on the small
poly bag or the card that your NailEase brace came in. Next,
use the enclosed "squeez-ette" like a little eye
dropper to draw-up and apply the adhesive to your nail. This
is done by pinching the squeez-ette, placing its tip in the
adhesive, and then slowly releasing. You should see a small
quantity of adhesive in the squeez-ette. (See Step 7)
STEP 7
- Apply a very small droplet of adhesive directly to the
center of the nail at the point where the NailEase brace is
to be applied (the point causing the most discomfort). Spread
the adhesive to the outer edge of the nail on the affected
side. NOTE : a very thin, even coat of adhesive works best.
STEP 8
Place
the rounded end of the NailEase brace on the outer edge of the
nail where the adhesive has been applied. Hold it in place with
the metal "non-slip" tip of the applicator tool, and
immediately bend the NailEase brace over the surface of the nail
where the adhesive has been applied and hold for approximately 60
seconds until bonded.
STEP 8 B
STEP 9
- Trim the loose end of the NailEase brace to match the width
of the nail, and round the end to eliminate sharp corners by
either trimming with scissors or filing with the emery board.
STEP 10
- Apply a very thin layer of adhesive to the nail's surface
directly under the NailEase brace. Now, hold the end of the
brace down firmly on the nail for approximately 60 seconds
until bonded.
STEP 10 B
STEP 11
- Apply a sealing coat of adhesive over the entire nail and
NailEase brace. Make certain that both edges of the brace are
completely sealed in adhesive. File smooth any sharp edges.
The adhesive will reach full strength in approximately 24
hours.
STEP 12
Put on your socks and shoes. Go treat yourself to a pint of
Ben & Jerry's ice cream. You've done a good job and
what-the-heck, you deserve it!
