How
can I get a NailEase brace for my ingrown toenail?
1. Is NailEase
effective?
For about nine out of ten people with ingrown toenails,
NailEase is an effective treatment for a painful problem. In
fact, immediately after application, your ingrown toenail will
start to feel better. Within 12 hours, pain and discomfort
should be eliminated. (See Clinical Trial press release) Relief
continues while the brace is worn, and for some time afterward.
Because a NailEase brace works to lift and spread the outer edges
of the toenail, the nail will often "grow out" of its
ingrown state permanently. Results vary, of course, but clinical
tests have proven NailEase to be an effective non-surgical
treatment for ingrown toenails.

2. Is a NailEase brace painful to apply and
wear?
NailEase is a painless treatment for ingrown toenails. No
surgery or painful medical procedures are involved. However,
during application, the NailEase brace must be lightly pressed
onto the toenail for a few seconds while the special glue dries.
Although this requires only slight pressure, it may cause
discomfort while the pressure is being applied if your toenail is
inflamed and highly sensitive. There may also be some slight
discomfort immediately after the brace is applied if the brace
lifts one or both outer edges of the toenail up too strongly.
This discomfort is rare, but can be quickly alleviated by
reducing the brace's tension, which is accomplished by thinning
the brace with the emery board supplied in the kit.

3.
Is NailEase a permanent cure for ingrown nails?
If the ingrown toenail is the result of improper trimming,
shoes that don't fit, or a trauma that obstructs the nail
channel, NailEase can often completely eliminate a long-term
problem. In other cases, NailEase can provide an effective
alternative treatment that offers many benefits.

4.
Will it interfere with any of my activities?
No. The NailEase brace is so thin and unobtrusive, it will
neither restrict nor interfere with any of your activities
whatsoever. You'll probably forget it's there!

5.
Will I have to wear special shoes?
Certainly not. People using NailEase braces can wear any type
of footwear they would normally wear, including the full range of
sports shoes.

6.
Will other people notice my NailEase brace?
With open-toe footwear (or no footwear at all) the black
brace can be seen. However, it can be covered with nail polish so
that the only indication of its presence is its thin raised
surface. Unless someone is looking directly at your toenail, he
or she would not likely notice your NailEase brace.

7.
Does the brace require special care?
Only during the first 24 hours. Although you can put shoes
and socks on, and resume your normal activities within a few
minutes of applying a NailEase brace, it takes 24 hours for the
adhesive to completely cure, so we recommend that you keep your
toenail dry during that time to ensure a proper bond. An optional
recommendation we make is to apply a nail hardener or polish over
the brace after the 24-hour curing period to help seal out
moisture and further protect the brace. This is not necessary,
but can prolong it life.

8.
Are there advantages to using the brace rather than having
surgery?
Yes. Several. Surgery is a much more involved procedure than
the simple application of a NailEase brace. With NailEase, you
won't have to wear special shoes afterwards, and there is no
surgery-related pain or infection. You can generally resume all
of your normal activities right after applying the brace.

9.
Will I have to apply another brace to my toenail in the future?
That depends. In some cases, new braces should be reapplied
at intervals of two, six, or 12 months, or whenever discomfort is
felt. Eventually braces either grow out with the nail and are
trimmed off, or become separated from the nail and fall off.
(Bonding time varies widely between three weeks and three
months.) If continued NailEase treatment is needed, simply apply
the new brace in the same way you applied the first one.

If necessary, is it hard to remove a brace from a toenail?
Not at all. If for any reason you should want to remove a
NailEase brace before it grows out with your nail, just file it
off, or remove it with an adhesive softener or nail polish
remover.

Can anyone use NailEase?
Almost everyone with an ingrown or pressure sensitive nail
can use NailEase. NailEase comes in both retail and
professional versions. Professionals (Podiatrists and
licensed Nail Technicians) have several versions of the NailEase
brace to choose from. Children under 12 years of age should use a
lighter professional kit as their nails are generally much
thinner than adults. The same applies if your problem is on
a toenail other than the great or "big" toe. You
should consult with a podiatrist before applying a NailEase
brace if you have a damaged or diseased nail, diabetes,
peripheral vascular disease, poor circulation, or your toe is
grossly infected (oozing puss) or highly inflamed.

How many toes does one NailEase kit treat?
A single NailEase kit has enough brace material for a single
application or a single toe. During the application
procedure, you will trim the brace to fit your toe. The
leftover material is not usually enough to treat a second
toe. Since the NailEase brace spans from one side of the
toenail to the other side, a single brace is usually sufficient
to treat a toenail that is ingrown on both sides. If you have a
second ingrown toenail you will need to purchase a second kit.

Is there any way to avoid ingrown toenails in the future?
While some ingrown toenails are caused by injuries or
heredity, the majority are the result of poorly fitted footwear,
improperly trimmed toenails, and the man-made materials in socks
and shoes. Therefore, ingrown toenails can be avoided in most
cases by wearing shoes that fit well, by trimming toenails
straight across, and, if these measures are not enough, by
wearing socks and shoes made of natural materials and fibers.
