CLINICAL STUDY GIVES INGROWN TOENAIL BRACE HIGH MARKS

SALT LAKE CITY, Ut. -- The NailEase Brace, for ingrown and pressure sensitive toenails, received highly positive results from a clinical study just completed by the California College of Podiatric Medicine.
NailEase "gives long-term relief from what can be a painful, difficult problem," states James W. Stavosky, DPM, and Chairman of the Department of Podiatric Medicine at the college. "We definitely saw positive results. And in many cases, NailEase allows you to 'train' the nail to prevent the problem from coming back."
According to the conclusions of the study, of which Dr. Stavosky was the primary investigator, "Treatment of ingrown toenails using NailEase fulfills the main requirements for the primary treatment of choice..."
Produced and marketed by Salt Lake City's Haelan Medical Corporation, NailEase is a thin strip of carbon fiber specially developed to be bonded directly on an ingrown or pressure sensitive toenail, a condition affecting an estimated one out of every five individuals. Once bonded, it gently lifts the nail's outer edges upward and outward. "It works immediately to relieve pressure that causes pain," states Burt Burrell, Haelan Medical's president.
The clinical study points out that "NailEase has the advantage of being a quick, simple, and inexpensive procedure that can be completed without anaesthesia and with minimal discomfort. The procedure leaves patients with an intact, pain free, cosmetically acceptable nail-bearing toe" that will "neither restrict nor interfere with any patient activities."
For 84 percent of the 25 patients with acute or chronic ingrown great toenails in the study, NailEase resolved the problem, and no further alternate treatment or surgery was needed. The study also indicates that in addition to relieving pain, NailEase's upward and outward force continues to operate on the toenail as it grows, working to prevent future problems with the nail.
The pain level reported by the 25 patients before application of NailEase averaged 2.1 (moderate) on a scale of 0 to 4. After application, the average pain level dropped to 0.4 (none to mild).
Photographs taken of the patients' ingrown nails both before and after application of NailEase show that the brace exerted a definite influence on the contour of the nails. Reports from participants in the study indicate that the benefits of NailEase continue for a considerable time after the brace is gone.
Until now, NailEase was available only through physicians. After April 1, 1996 a self application version of NailEase can be found in nail salons and the foot care section of pharmacies throughout the United States. Physicians will continue to provide a wider selection of NailEase alternatives for patients with special needs.
While the non-invasive nature of NailEase can be particularly beneficial for patients with diabetes and circulatory problems, their physicians should be consulted before applying the treatment.
NailEase works best on nails that are smoothly rounded, and should not be used on nails that are damaged or grossly infected.
If not found in your favorite nail salon or pharmacy, NailEase can be ordered directly from Haelan Medical Corporation, 3760 South Highland Drive, Suite 450, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106, for $14.95 plus $3.00 shipping and handling.
